Horse slaughter remains a highly profitable market. If horses cannot run or pull a plow, they often go up to the slaughterhouse. Slaughterhouses buy "unusable" horses at public auctions and send them to slaughter. Dear Giants Draft Horse Rescue is often the only thing that stands between these horses and death. These extraordinary horses collect what they can and go to the same public auctions. There they made an offer against the slaughterhouses and bought the horses by making an offer just above the price of the meat. The horses are then transported to this extraordinary farm in Mount Airy, MD, where they can live their lives surrounded by green pastures. Sometimes horses have to be quarantined to make sure they have no disease in the herd, but later they have been allowed to run free as they would in the wild. What do you think of this video?
